BPW Barbados attends Human Trafficking Training

Human Trafficking Training

BPW Barbados participated in the Trafficking in Persons Workshop hosted by the Bureau of Gender Affairs Sept 10th – 12th , UWI, Barbados.

Four representatives from BPW Barbados inclusive of members and Crisis Centre advocates participated in the intense training instructed by facilitators from Homeland Security and the South Florida Task Force Field Operation Unit.

Topics included: Common Myths & Perception, Victim Identification, Law Review, Protection of Victims, Victims’ Services and other pertinent topics.

The training was attended by frontline personnel from the Barbados National Task Force on Human Trafficking including the Immigration Dept, Foreign Affairs, Police, Defense Force and others. Special addresses were made by the Director of the Bureau of Gender Affairs, Mrs. Patricia Hackett-Codrington, His Excellency Larry Palmer, Ambassador of the US and the Hon. Adriel Brathwaite, Attorney General and Minister of Home Affairs who leads the local task force on Human Trafficking.

BPW Barbados recently supported the Bureau of Gender Affairs’ Panel Discussion on Human Trafficking on Sept 5 at the Lester Vaughan School. Executive Member Mary Thompson (Public Relationss Officer) represented the club on the panel and spoke on “Identification of Victims and Care of Victims”. The panel discussion was attended by the public and other members of the Human Trafficking Task Force

BPW thanks the Bureau of Gender Affairs for inviting them to participate in the TIP training. BPW Barbados continues to support Barbados in its anti-Human Trafficking initiatives through membership on the National Task Force on Human Trafficking and will continue to provide services to victims of Human Trafficking through the BPW Shelter and Crisis Centre.
